On-demand access to the Oxford virtual campus tour is available on YouTube. Watch the Oxford Campus Tour today! This video was made by an independent creator, not by the university.
Visit a university in person. I strongly recommend that families of Grade 9 and above students visit at least one university: this one, a local university in India, or any place you choose. Seeing the labs and classrooms and talking to students gives a child something a virtual tour cannot. If you need help planning a visit, write to me at pcmadankumar@gmail.com.
Oxford Admission Requirements for CBSE and Cambridge A Level
Important: Oxford accepts Class 12 results from CBSE (All India Senior School Certificate) and CISCE (ISC). It does not accept State Board results or NIOS Class 12. It also does not take JEE or NEET scores in place of Class 12. CBSE results come after the October deadline, so your school sends predicted grades. These are the marks the school expects your child to score. For course by course rules, please write to me for a one to one session.

| Competitive Benchmark | Oxford’s published rule is the floor, not a promise. The course page may ask for A1 in particular subjects. Common to both pathways
All applications go through UCAS (ucas.com), Oxford code O33. The deadline is 15 October 2026 at 6 pm UK time for all courses. CBSE results and Cambridge A Level results both come in May. Oxford gives offers that depend on final results. Interviews are online in December 2026. They are not a test of confidence. They show how your child thinks. Please also check the UCAS rule that a student can usually apply to only one of Oxford and Cambridge in the same year.
Voices from Oxford, Indian Students
The words below come from the Rhodes House website, from two Indian Rhodes Scholars.
“Oxford, where we first met as students, changed our lives, and we hope that this Scholarship will do just that for many more in the years ahead.”
— Dr Mukund Rajan and Soumya Rajan, India, Rhodes Scholars, University of Oxford | Gave the funds for the sixth Rhodes Scholarship for India. Published on the Rhodes House website, September 2024
Why Should Your Child Consider the University of Oxford?
#1 in THE for the 11th Year in a Row, and #4 in QS
Oxford is #4 in the QS World University Rankings 2027 (June 2026). It is #1 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, published on 30 September 2026. Oxford says this is a record 11 years in a row. The two lists use different methods, so the numbers differ. Please do not choose a course on a ranking alone. An Oxford degree is known everywhere, and employers, law firms and universities in India and abroad know the name well.
The Oxford Tutorial Style
Oxford teaches through tutorials, which are small meetings with an expert tutor. The interview is built like a short tutorial, so your child will meet this style before joining. Each student also belongs to a college, a smaller community inside the university. The course fee already includes the college charge, as Oxford publishes one fee. This makes a big university feel smaller for a student who is far from home.
A Wide Range of Courses
Oxford has courses in sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer science, law, medicine, history, English, economics and more. PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) is one of its best known degrees. A student with strengths in the humanities or social sciences has as many choices here as a student in science. Please remember that many of these courses need a test, and one test is needed for each course.
Postgraduate Funding Is Strong for Indian Students
Money for a first degree is very limited, but Oxford has real funding for later study. The Felix Scholarship is for Indian students. The Clarendon Fund has no rule on nationality. Rhodes Scholars from India also study at Oxford. These help students who plan a Master’s or PhD. Please read the Felix rule about a degree from a university outside India, in the next section.
What parents should know
- CRITICAL, admissions tests: Oxford says all applicants must take their test in October 2026. The booking window closed on 28 September 2026 at 6 pm UK time. The test days are 12 to 16 October 2026, and results come on 16 November 2026. A January sitting, on 4 to 8 January 2027, is only for the Astrophoria Foundation Year. Each UAT-UK test costs GBP 133 (~INR 17,000) outside the UK. If your child is applying for a course that needs a test and has not booked, please write to us today.
- CRITICAL, deadline: UCAS closes on 15 October 2026 at 6 pm UK time, which is 10:30 pm in India. Your school must send the reference and predicted grades before then. Please ask the teachers now. Oxford interviews are online in December 2026.
- CRITICAL, boards: Oxford accepts CBSE and ISC but not State Boards or NIOS. This is stricter than UCL, which accepts the Tamil Nadu State Board. A student who plans to apply to Oxford should be on CBSE, ISC or Cambridge A Level.
- Tuition for 2027 entry (the 2027 to 2028 year): GBP 39,620 to 66,580 a year (~INR 50–85 lakhs at ~GBP 127/INR, October 2026). Students who joined for 2026 to 2027 pay GBP 37,380 to 62,820 (~INR 47–80 lakhs). The fee changes with the course, and Medicine is higher in the clinical years. Oxford publishes one figure that covers the university and the college. Oxford says yearly rises will not go above 6 percent or UK inflation, whichever is higher.
- Living costs for 2027 to 2028: GBP 1,475 to 2,175 a month. For nine months, this is GBP 13,275 to 19,575 (~INR 17–25 lakhs). Oxford advises families to plan for nine months. With tuition, a year can cost about GBP 52,895 to 86,155 (~INR 67 lakhs to 1.1 crores), before flights. Oxford is outside London, so the visa savings rule is the lower one. From 30 November 2026 your child must show GBP 1,203 a month for up to nine months, which is GBP 10,827 (~INR 14 lakhs).
- Aid for a first degree is very limited. Oxford’s bursaries are for students from the UK. The Reach Oxford Scholarship is for students from low income countries, and we could not confirm that India is on its list. Please do not plan on aid. For later study, Felix covers full fees, a living grant of about GBP 19,000 (~INR 24 lakhs) and a return flight. It is for up to 7 Indian students a year. Felix needs a first class degree from an Indian university and says a degree from outside India rules a student out. Clarendon has over 200 new full awards a year for all nationalities. For both, you apply for the course and you are considered automatically by the December or January deadline.
- UK visa costs: the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) pays for NHS care. It is GBP 776 a year, so about GBP 2,716 for a 3 year degree (~INR 3.4 lakhs). You pay it when you apply for the visa. A four year course costs more. The Graduate Route is the UK work visa after a degree. It is 2 years for those who apply on or before 31 December 2026, and only 18 months on or after 1 January 2027. Students starting in 2027 will graduate after that date.
- How hard is it? Oxford is very competitive, and we could not confirm a current success rate for Indian applicants. A strong school record is only the start. The test and the interview decide who is shortlisted and who receives an offer.
