Career Roadmaps: 26 roles, step by step

Pick a role that interests you. See which school subjects keep that door open, which Indian degrees and entrance exams lead there, and what to learn first. Built for Subject Choices Day and for anyone wondering "what next?".

Career Roadmaps

The biggest door-closer is dropping Mathematics after IGCSE or Class 10. It shuts most routes into engineering, data, AI, finance and consulting, in India and abroad. If you are unsure, keeping Maths to AS Level or Class 12 is the safer choice. Entrance exam dates, eligibility and fees change every year, so always check the official site. Cambridge students: some Indian exams and universities ask for a UGC equivalence certificate (formerly AIU) or a minimum mark in specific subjects. Check this early, not in Grade 12.

How to read a roadmap

  1. Find a role that interests you. Roles are grouped into families below.
  2. Look at the subjects that keep the door open. This matters most in Grade 10 and before AS Level or Class 11 choices. Some subject combinations quietly close doors.
  3. Look at the routes in India. These are the usual degrees and entrance exams. Most of these jobs do not need one specific degree, but some routes make the start much easier.
  4. Read the three phases. Phase 1 is the basics you can start even in school. Phase 3 is what people learn on the job.
  5. Open the original roadmap for the full detail. Each role links to its page on Careermaxxing.
